Sexual Assault Assistance Program of the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee

Our Mission Statement

Provide a coordinated, collaborative, and multidisciplinary approach to sexual violence on the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee with the services and support to lead victims towards empowerment and re-connection.

We exist so that no survivor of sexual violence has to go through crisis alone. We help survivors living on the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee regardless of their age, circumstances, or their decision of whether to involve law enforcement or not. We are a group of trained advocates, counselors, and administrators. All communications with our staff are confidential.” – Sexual Assault Assistance Program

Men, women, and children are all affected by sexual violence.

1 out of every 6 American women and 1 in 33 American men have experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. From 2009-2013, Child Protective Services agencies found strong evidence to indicate that 63,000 children a year were victims of sexual abuse.

1 in 9 girls and 1 in 53 boys under the age of 18 experience sexual abuse or assault at the hands of an adult.

Every 68 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted.

And every 9 minutes, that victim is a child.

Sexual violence affects hundreds of thousands of Americans each year. While we’re making progress — the number of assaults has fallen by more than half since 1993 — even today, only 5 out of every 1,000 rapists will end up in prison.
